Great to catch up with so many at Greenbelt. The conversation around community went very well - here's a pic by Steve Broadway showing conversation-makers Abbot Stuart Burns [Mucknell Abbey], Cara Heafey [mayBe, Oxford] Fiona Lingard [Third Space, Matlock] and Peter Macdonald [Iona Community] with myself facilitating.

House244 in Oxford looking for new members

Are you looking for the perfect community?

If so, please don’t reply to this advert!

If, however, you are interested in community living and would like to explore joining a small, open-minded, Christian, residential community in East Oxford please read on.

We are a small Christian community of adults and children, living together in a large house in East Oxford and seeking to share one another’s lives. The community was initially formed by CMS (Church Mission Society) in 2008 in line with their history of community living.

We have developed a rhythm of life which we can share with you in more detail if you are interested in taking things further. Primarily we share an evening meal together most evenings, and each take a turn in preparing a meal once a week. We share communal tasks and cleaning and each take responsibility for an area of life in the house. We also meet together once a week on a Tuesday evening, and spend time together once a week in prayer.

All food and bills are covered by a monthly payment into a house account of £210 per adult and £60+ per child according to their age. We also pay monthly rent to CMS who own the house (around £300 per person).

Each person has their own bedroom and families also has a small living room. Some rooms have their own bathroom and others share a bathroom.

There is a large living/dining space, garden, office and library, all of which are communal areas.

If you are interested in exploring joining us please get in touch using at find out more and get in touch at www.house244.wordpress.com/contact. We’d welcome the chance to answer questions or arrange for you to come over for a chat.

hi everyone - I'm looking forward to hosting this conversation about community at Greenbelt - got participants with a great mix of experience...

hi Ross. It's a conversation between the invited participants [see the names I gave] with a wider audience in attendance. It's not called a panel because we want the participants to engage with each other rather than just line up to answer questions in turn. I'm also planning to create some space for the wider audience to get involved if they wish. Hope that all makes sense!
peace

Hey Ian,

We're going to Greenbelt and I'm sure some of us will be interested in this but, to tell you the truth, I don't quite know what it is and, as a "conversation", what I might be expected to contribute. Can you say just a little but more about what it is?

Anything else you'd recommend SMC newbies to go to?

hi everyone. There's a really interesting opportunity to experience intentional community on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne with the Community of Aidan and Hilda. They are looking for someone with computer and personal skills who can stay for between three to twelve months to help staff the office and give occasional help at The Open Gate Retreat House and CAH library. They'll provide a room with free board and a chance to study and experience community life. If you know of someone who may be interested, please invite them to contact Graham and Ruth Booth at . Sounds good!
peace to you all Ian
